TCB Review: Like the great aunt that you feel guilty about saying anything bad about because she’s family, Key's has that special spot in our hearts more than in our stomachs. While the food is above average (you'll never again wonder why they're called pancakes after a visit here), its reputation is built on longevity & sentimentality more than on the food itself.
Key's serves good food but tries to over compensate with massively large portions – a tactic that actually can get a restaurateur quite far here in Minnesota. The drawback, though, is the prices then tend to be inflated, which is the case here. It is family owned and operated, which is refreshing, and the staff are always personable & accommodating. Also has lots of booths, albeit no cushions.

From: Slonob 03/29/2006 | 1 of 5 Huevos | There is no reason in this world for margarine to exist. Any breakfast joint that uses margarine should be shunned. Keys drenches their hash browns and pancakes in the stuff.

From: Andrew 03/27/2006 | 5 of 5 Huevos | I stopped by keys with my girlfriend around noon on a Saturday and the place was filled with a diverse assortment of breakfast seekers – from crazy old ladies that had to go outside and chain smoke every five minutes, to young, nubile couples on their first date. I bekoned our waitress to bring me their standard order of 3 buttermilk pancakes, with a side of breakfast sausage. My girlfriend ordered French toast and bacon. We were both surprised at the portions when they arrived. We’re both truck stop conniseurs, but this was beyond compare! The pancakes were some of the best I’ve had to date – complete with an intense malty, buttermilky flavor and served with a humongous heap of natural butter in a paper side cup. And do you think you’ve had good breakfast sausage? Well, you haven’t if you haven’t tried Keys’. My sausage patty had to be at least 8 oz., and it was griddled to perfection with a thin layer of smoky char on the bottom side that sealed in the pork’s natural juices. My girlfriend’s french toast was also humongous, and as reported, supremely delicious. All in all, this is a must return for us. First-timers beware: order less than you would at other breakfast nooks. Also, our bill topped $23.00 for two, making Keys a “special occasion” breakfast for us (maybe on a once-every-two-months schedule).

From: ben 03/18/2005 | 4 of 5 Huevos | A good place to go if you are looking for something with a little more flavor. Strong coffee, bold flavors. It is however, non-smoking. A plus for sum, a minus for me.
